Acupressure and acupuncture are sciences that have been around for thousands of years. Developed in Asia, these methods effectively combat chronic pain, anxiety and stress. Some gestures can even be performed by yourself.
Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine. It therefore requires expertise. But there are some very simple gestures that can be performed at home, and are formidable against stress and anxiety.
We've selected five for you. First and foremost, it's important to remember that for these gestures to be effective, you need to take the time to relax. Put on some soft music and get started.
It's also important to point out that in the event of persistent pain, don't hesitate to consult a specialist. Do not apply pressure to a mole or wart. Finally, if the pressure point is causing you more pain than you want to deal with, don't persist and see a specialist.
1. On the wrist
On the inside of the wrist, you can touch your veins. It's at this precise spot that you should press with your thumb to combat nausea, which can be felt when you're pregnant or in the car, but also stomachaches and headaches.
For greater effectiveness, press and massage this point at the same time for 2 to 3 minutes, using small circular movements.
This point can also be used to combat dizziness, hiccups and high blood pressure. Massaging this point will also calm you before an important or particularly stressful event. Remember to use this gesture on both wrists.
2. Between index finger and thumb
If you pinch the flesh between your index finger and thumb, you'll also be able to relieve temporary anxiety. Massaging this area while breathing deeply is highly effective against stress and anxiety. Here again, we advise you to hold the pressure for 2 to 3 minutes.
If you're looking for an in-depth treatment against stress, you can stimulate these acupressure points up to 3 times a day. In the event of a real panic attack, don't hesitate to insist for longer and apply pressure for a good ten minutes.
3. Just below the knee
Here again, this pressure point is used to combat nausea or other digestive disorders. Simply place your 4 fingers below the knee, on the front of your leg, where you can feel a hollow.
The fingers should be positioned between the bone and the muscle. To make sure you're in the right place, move your foot so that the area moves under your fingers. Press for a few minutes, getting as close to the bone as possible.
You can also apply pressure with a ping pong ball. This point can also help you combat sleep deprivation and stress, and stimulate your immune system.
4. On the forearm
This point can be used for a wide range of ailments: headaches, toothaches, sore throats, neck pain, coughs, asthma and fever. It also soothes sadness and depression.
The acupressure point is located below the wrist, at the beginning of the forearm, in the hollow at the bottom of your thumb, where the two tendons are located.
5. Under the collarbone
Finally, we suggest a last acupressure point under the collarbone, above the chest, close to the arm bone. You know when you've found it, as it instinctively gives you a feeling of well-being.
This point is recommended for coughs or other respiratory disorders such as asthma or chest pain. It is also highly effective for learning to let go. If you're on vacation, now's the time to try out this new point.
